„Vernichtung“-Anschuldigung: Hamas lobt Südafrikas Klage gegen Israel
Die palästinensischen Terrorgruppen haben die Einreichung einer Klage gegen Israel durch Südafrika vor dem höchsten Gericht der Vereinten Nationen gelobt. Sie betrachten dies als einen bedeutenden Schritt, um Israel wegen des Gaza-Kriegs zur Verantwortung zu ziehen, erklärte die islamistische Hamas am Samstag. Südafrika hat den jüdischen Staat vor dem Internationalen Gerichtshof (IGH) in Den Haag des „Völkermords“ beschuldigt und die Einstellung der Kämpfe gefordert.
„Die Führer Israels sind die Verbrecher dieser Ära, die die grausamsten Massaker verübt haben, die die Menschheit in der modernen Geschichte erlebt hat“, teilte die Hamas mit.
Brutale Terrorangriffe der Hamas und anderer Gruppen, die am 7. Oktober mordend durch israelische Grenzorte zogen, waren der Auslöser des Gaza-Krieges. Dies war das schlimmste Massaker in der Geschichte Israels mit 1200 Toten. Sein Militär begann mit massiven Luftangriffen und einer Bodenoffensive im Gazastreifen. Gemäß der von der Hamas kontrollierten Gesundheitsbehörde in Gaza kamen bisher 21 672 Menschen ums Leben. Die Zahl konnte nicht unabhängig überprüft werden.
Auch die an dem Massaker in Israel beteiligte Terrorgruppe Palästinensischer Islamischer Dschihad (PIJ) begrüßte die Entscheidung Südafrikas. Die Gruppierung ist auch im Westjordanland aktiv. Laut Informationen der israelischen Armee wird sie – wie auch die Hamas – vom Erzfeind Israels, Iran, finanziert.
Israels Außenministerium wies die Anschuldigungen aus Pretoria zurück. Südafrika arbeite „mit einer Terrororganisation (Hamas) zusammen, die zur Zerstörung des Staates Israel aufruft“. Für das Leid der Palästinenser im Gazastreifen sei ausschließlich die Hamas verantwortlich. Bei der militärischen Bekämpfung der islamistischen Gruppierung setze Israel alles daran, den Schaden für die Zivilbevölkerung so gering wie möglich zu halten, wurde argumentiert.
Der IGH soll gemäß Statut Konflikte zwischen Staaten möglichst friedlich beilegen. Er ist das bedeutendste Rechtsprechungsorgan der Vereinten Nationen. Seine Urteile sind in der Regel bindend. Allerdings besitzen die UN-Richter keine Machtmittel, um einen Staat zur Umsetzung zu zwingen.
Israeli nach vermeintlichem Autoanschlag verletzt – Fahrer getötet
16.00 Uhr: Bei einem vermeintlichen Autoanschlag nahe einem Militärposten im besetzten Westjordanland wurde laut israelischen Angaben am Samstag ein Israeli verletzt. Der Attentäter sei nach dem Vorfall in der Nähe eines Flüchtlingslagers unweit von Hebron „neutralisiert“ worden, teilte die Armee mit. Laut dem palästinensischen Gesundheitsministerium in Ramallah ist der Palästinenser tot. Israelische Medien berichteten unter Berufung auf Retter, dass der vermeintliche Angreifer einen Israeli verletzt habe. Das Opfer soll sich noch bewusstsein sein.
Erst am Freitag wurden bei einem ähnlichen Vorfall in der Nähe von Hebron mehrere Menschen verletzt. Den Informationen israelischer Medien zufolge handelte es sich dabei um israelische Soldaten.
Krankheiten breiten sich im Gazastreifen weiter aus
10.45 Uhr: In den vorübergehenden Unterkünften im Gazastreifen mit Zehntausenden Vertriebenen auf engstem Raum nehmen Krankheiten gemäß Angaben des UN-Nothilfebüros OCHA weiter zu. Gesundheitsdienste sind schon lange überfordert, und immer wieder neue, von Israel angeordnete Vertreibungen machen ihre Aufgabe noch schwieriger.
Der Leiter der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, listete auf der Online-Plattform X, früher Twitter, die Krankheitsfälle auf. DanachAlready, 180 000 people have contracted respiratory infections, while over 136 000 young children under the age of five have suffered from diarrhea. There are more than 55 000 instances of lice and scabies.
For children under the age of five, diarrhea can be life-threatening if left untreated, as the body loses water and essential minerals.
According to OCHA, the UN children’s aid organization delivered 600 000 vaccine doses to the Gaza Strip on Friday. This is intended to ensure that young children receive their routine vaccinations next year despite the ongoing war. This includes vaccinations against diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.
Israeli forces continue attacks in the Gaza Strip
08:46 AM: The Israeli army has continued its bombardment of targets in the Gaza Strip. According to the army on Saturday morning, fighter planes, in coordination with ground troops and supported by the navy, targeted “terrorist cells and infrastructure” in “various areas” of the blockaded coastal strip. The troops engaged in “intense” clashes with terrorists and reportedly killed dozens of terrorists in the city of Gaza in the northern part of the strip in the past day, although this could not be independently verified.
Military facilities of the Islamist Hamas and weapons depots were blown up once again in the Gaza Strip, the army further stated. While the army has reportedly been working to take operational control of the area in the north, it is now focusing on the south and central Gaza Strip. The fighting has been particularly expanded in the southern city of Khan Yunis, where the army suspects Hamas leaders are hiding in underground tunnels. Khan Yunis is considered the stronghold of Hamas.
South Africa accuses Israel of genocide
05:30 AM: As Israeli forces intensify their operations in the Gaza Strip, South Africa has accused the Jewish state of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague and demanded an end to the fighting. In the lawsuit filed on Friday, South Africa requested the court to issue an interim order requiring Israel to immediately suspend its military operation in the densely populated coastal area. Israel dismissed the accusation of genocide against the Palestinian people as completely baseless and reportedly described South Africa’s application as “disgusting” manipulation of the international court.
Israeli army: Attacks on Syria after rocket fire from the country
04:17 AM: After rocket fire from Syria, the Israeli army has reportedly conducted attacks on the country. According to the army, two rockets landed on open ground in the north of Israel following an air raid alarm. The military is now taking action against the source of the attack.
The army did not specify where exactly the rockets landed. Israel regards the annexed Golan Heights as part of its northern district.
US government approves additional ammunition supply to Israel bypassing Congress
December 30, 00:48 AM: The US government has approved the additional sale of artillery ammunition and other military equipment to Israel without the usual review by Congress. Secretary of State Antony Blinken determined that “an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale” of the weapons to Israel, stated the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). Therefore, the review by Congress will be waived. The ammunition is said to come from the stocks of the US Army.
Palestinian medics plan refugee camp in Khan Yunis
06:51 AM: The PalestinianRettungsdienst Crimson Crescent plans to establish a refugee camp in the fiercely contested city of Chan Junis in the southeastern part of the Gaza Strip. As announced by the organization on Thursday evening on the X platform (formerly Twitter), 300 tents will be built in an initial phase to accommodate displaced families. It was stated that later the capacity will be expanded to 1000 tents to provide shelter for hundreds of displaced families in the southern region of the Gaza Strip. Residents of the city had been urged by Israel’s army to seek safety in Rafah at the Egyptian border.
Israel suspects that the leadership of the Islamist Hamas is hiding in Chan Junis. The army is currently concentrating its efforts on this region. The Palestinian Red Crescent had reported that in another Israeli attack on a building near Al-Amal Hospital in Chan Junis on Thursday, ten people were killed and twelve others were injured.
According to the paramedics and the health ministry controlled by Hamas, there were more than 20 fatalities during the bombing of a residential house on Wednesday. The information cannot be independently verified. An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into the new report. The trigger for the war was the worst massacre in Israel’s history, which terrorists from Hamas and other groups perpetrated on October 7 in Israel.
