For increased salary: Over 2000 practice employees go on strike
15.50 Uhr: At least 2000 medical assistants have stopped working this Thursday, disrupting operations in numerous medical practices nationwide. According to the Association of Medical Professions (vmf), a total of 1000 people alone were expected to participate in the demonstrations in several German cities, said a spokesperson. Just as many had indicated to the association that they would follow the all-day strike call even without participating in the demonstration. However, it is to be expected that further practice staff would participate.
For the first time in its history, the association called for nationwide industrial action by the 330,000 Medical Assistants (MFA) in outpatient care. Association President Hannelore König expressed satisfaction with the response to the warning strike. “Today, the effects may not be felt across the board, but where the MFA do not come to work, it is a glimpse of what is in store if we do not increase salaries,” König told the German Press Agency. “Without significant improvements for the MFA, outpatient care for patients is at risk.” Indeed, staff increasingly moves from practices to hospitals or other work areas due to better remuneration.
In the ongoing wage negotiations, the association aims to give emphasis to the demand for better payment. Several medical associations expressed solidarity with the strikers and called on politics and health insurances to offset necessary increases in staffing costs accordingly. The largest demonstrations with around 200 participants are to take place in Berlin and Nuremberg. Protest actions are also occurring in Dortmund, Hamburg, Marburg, and Stuttgart.
In practices affected by the strike, considerable delays in procedures and longer waiting times are to be expected, for which patients are asked for understanding, said a spokesperson for the association. The areas of work include not only registration and appointment scheduling, but also assistance in examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures. According to the information, the MFAs are also responsible for documentation, hygiene measures, practice management, and billing.
Discover agrees on higher pilot salaries bypassing the union
14.25 Uhr: At the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines, new trouble looms with the pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC). After three strikes, the airline has now agreed to higher pilot salaries, according to its own statements – however, not with VC through a collective agreement, but with the works council via a company agreement. The new salaries exactly correspond to VC’s demands, as both sides confirmed on Thursday. The union intends to continue the industrial action, although its material demands initially seem to have been largely met. This was first reported by the portal “aero.de”.
“We are ‘shocked’ by Discover’s approach,” said the VC wage commission. It is clear that the company would rather negotiate with the works council and the amount of the demand was not decisive for the rejection of the intended collective agreement, said a circular to the pilots. An company agreement does not achieve the legal quality and security of a collective agreement with the union. Future discussions about salary increases would become “collective begging”.
The commission also warned colleagues about the “social partnership charter” aspired by the Lufthansa Group. With advance notice periods, defined escalation stages, mandatory mediation, compulsory arbitration, and limitation of possible demands, it would beallein die Begrenzung des vorhandenen Streikrechts angestrebt. Die Gewerkschaft kämpft für einen Erst-Tarifvertrag bei der vor zweieinhalb Jahren gegründeten Gesellschaft, die mit 24 Flugzeugen unter anderem dem Ferienflieger Condor Konkurrenz machen soll. Die Piloten haben bereits zweimal gestreikt und einen fünfstündigen Warnstreik vorangestellt.
Der Streik ist vorbei, dennoch fallen Flüge aus
Donnerstag, 8. Februar 2024, 09:05 Uhr: Die Gewerkschaft Verdi hat ihren 27-stündigen Warnstreik beim Bodenpersonal der Lufthansa beendet. Das bestätigte am Donnerstagmorgen eine Sprecherin der Gewerkschaft.
Der am Mittwochmorgen begonnene Ausstand sorgte auch am Donnerstag immer noch für einige Flugausfälle. Nach bis zu 900 Flugabsagen am Vortag hatte die Airline für Donnerstagvormittag zunächst rund 30 Starts an ihren Drehkreuzen Frankfurt und München gestrichen. Spätestens am Freitag sollte wieder Normalbetrieb herrschen.
An den Warnstreiks an den Standorten Frankfurt, München, Hamburg, Düsseldorf und Berlin haben circa 7000 Personen teilgenommen, wie Verdi-Verhandlungsführer Marvin Reschinsky berichtete. Er drohte der Lufthansa mit längeren Streiks, sollte das bisherige Angebot nicht verbessert werden. Das Unternehmen kritisierte die frühe Eskalation des Konflikts.
Verdi fordert in dem Tarifkonflikt eine Gehaltserhöhung um 12,5 Prozent, mindestens aber 500 Euro monatlich bei einer Laufzeit von einem Jahr. Des Weiteren soll es eine konzernweite Inflationsprämie von 3000 Euro geben. Die Lufthansa hat für einen Zeitraum von drei Jahren 13 Prozent mehr Gehalt sowie eine Inflationsprämie angeboten. Die nächste Verhandlungsrunde ist für den kommenden Montag (12. Februar) geplant.

Massestreiktag bei der Lufthansa: Betroffene Flughäfen
Mittwoch, 08.50 Uhr: Im Zuge des Tarifstreits mit der Lufthansa hat das Bodenpersonal des Unternehmens am Mittwochmorgen an fünf deutschen Flughäfen einen Warnstreik gestartet. Betroffen sind bis Donnerstagmorgen die folgenden Flughäfen:
- In Frankfurt wurden bereits zuvor 80 bis 90 Prozent der rund 600 geplanten Starts und Landungen der Lufthansa-Kernmarke sowie des konzerneigenen Zubringers Air Dolomiti abgesagt.
- In München werden mehr als die Hälfte aller Flüge ausfallen. Von normalerweise rund 730 Flugbewegungen aller Gesellschaften sind gut 400 Starts und Landungen betroffen. Dabei handelt es sich laut Flughafen nahezu ausschließlich um Flüge der Lufthansa und ihrer Partner.
- Am Hauptstadtflughafen BER entfallen alle abgehenden und ankommenden Lufthansa-Flüge. Insgesamt handelt es sich um 46 Flugbewegungen.
- In Düsseldorf fallen 14 der 15 geplanten Lufthansa-Verbindungen nach München und Frankfurt aus. Bei den Ankünften sind es laut Flughafen 13 von 14 Flügen. Andere Gesellschaften müssen unter Umständen Verzögerungen in Kauf nehmen, weil auch das Personal streikt, das Flugzeuge mit Spezialfahrzeugen vom Terminal zu den Rollwegen schleppt.
- There have been 23 planned Lufthansa departures canceled in Hamburg as indicated in the online flight schedule of the airport. These consist of twelve flights to Munich and eleven to Frankfurt. In return, the arrivals from these two hubs have also been canceled.
Eurowings, a subsidiary of the company, which offers many connections outside of the two hubs, claims to be unaffected.
For canceled domestic flights, customers are able to switch to traveling by train using their flight ticket. Lufthansa warned that passengers of canceled flights should not come to the airport under any circumstances. They would not receive any assistance there. “Unfortunately, due to the strike, the rebooking counters are not staffed,” stated on the airline’s website. Free rebooking options are available through lufthansa.com, the customer app, and the service center.
100,000 Passengers Affected! Strike at Frankfurter Airport Has Started
Wednesday, February 7, 07:12 AM: The announced warning strike by the ground staff at Frankfurt Airport for Lufthansa began on Wednesday morning. A Fraport spokeswoman said that there could be up to 90 percent of flights canceled at Lufthansa. Over 100,000 passengers had to rearrange their travel plans.
The largest German airport, together with Munich, is hardest hit by the planned 27-hour strike. In Frankfurt, 80 to 90 percent of the approximately 600 planned departures and landings of Lufthansa’s core brand and its in-house feeder Air Dolomiti were canceled in advance. However, the remaining group companies as well as external airlines are still operating.
