According to a survey conducted for the RTL/ntv-Trendbarometer, ten ministers are considered not suitable by more respondents than suitable. Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP), Volker Wissing (FDP), Klara Geywitz (SPD), and Nancy Faeser (SPD) have a particularly negative trust balance (of minus 33 points or more).
Blow for Olaf Scholz: Only one in five considers him suitable
However, at the bottom is the federal chancellor, with only 19 percent considering him suitable for his office after two years in government, while 73 percent consider him unsuitable. Scholz was included in the cabinet ranking for the first time this year.
This comes from a survey conducted by forsa on behalf of RTL/ntv at the “midpoint” of the legislative period. The citizens were once again asked to assess whether they consider the individual ministers suitable for their office. A similar survey was conducted shortly after the appointment of the cabinet in December 2021 and a year later.
With the exception of Wolfgang Schmidt (SPD) and Marco Buschmann (FDP), all cabinet members receive – to varying degrees – lower scores at the end of 2023 than in the previous year (Boris Pistorius as a new government member and Olaf Scholz as federal chancellor were included in the survey for the first time this year)
Boris Pistorius is a major survey winner
Six members of the federal cabinet are considered suitable by more respondents than unsuitable. This is particularly true for Boris Pistorius (SPD), who took office in early 2023, with a positive balance of +59 percentage points.
They are followed by:
- Hubertus Heil (SPD, +15 percentage points)
- Cem Özdemir (Green, +13 percentage points)
- Wolfgang Schmidt (SPD, +12 percentage points)
- Marco Buschmann (FDP, +5)
- Karl Lauterbach (SPD, +2 percentage points)
These ministers now have lower scores
The biggest deteriorations in trust balance compared to December 2022 are:
- Annalena Baerbock (Green, -9 at the end of 2023 compared to +19 at the end of 2022)
- Robert Habeck (Green, -14 at the end of 2023 compared to +6 at the end of 2022)
- Christian Lindner (FDP, -14 at the end of 2023 compared to -2 at the end of 2022)
- Klara Geywitz (SPD, -42 at the end of 2023 compared to -27 at the end of 2022)
- Nancy Faeser (SPD, -48 compared to -8 at the end of 2022)
