According to Habeck, it is very challenging in Germany to ban parties for good reason, as it could also be used against democratic parties. “One must carefully examine individual statements, individual persons, and individual organizations, and then of course also gather evidence that is strong enough to initiate a legal process (…), build a case and then act accordingly. I consider this to be necessary,” said Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck in an interview with RTL/ntv during his visit to Israel in Jerusalem.
Habeck: “They are willing to use violence”
The recent reports about a meeting of AfD politicians with representatives of the identitarian movement in Brandenburg did not particularly surprise the minister:
“A few years ago, I had the displeasure of having to read the book by Björn Höcke (..). There are scenarios there, elaborated on ethnic purity, as well as the use of violence necessary for it. It is explicitly stated there. Therefore, everyone who feels affiliated with the AfD or its spectrum must know what kind of people they are. They are willing to use violence against people to enforce their idea of a different Germany.”
